What will the project dynamics be on a project staffed with 3mdps, a PL, and myself, a summer UG intern? Just got staffed and will be hearing more on Monday from the team, but it came across as an interesting staffing composition.
Have the feeling I'll be making quite a few slides as the only junior. Anyone staffed on a similar case composition?

Not bad. People are like sharks smelling blood when fresh talent comes in
Yeah SMs get a report of talent (new and people who have just become available) and that’s all they care about. Put yourself first as you get adjusted.
This is coming from experience absolutely say no to them. As a new hire you are not going to get promoted this performance year and the main purpose of doing internal firm work is to do solid work that’s recognized by managers and partners so they can back you up on your snapshots. Firm work is not mandatory to do, you will not get dinged for rejecting them however you will get dinged for performing poorly in them. I would like to note unless you are on bench doing nothing, then it’s definitely acceptable to join.
Pro
I’ve done this many times and still do it.
Just say you want to focus your efforts on learning Deloitte, ramp up on your project, and hit the ground running, but to reach out in the future, blah blah.
People tend to respect those (below managers) focusing mainly on project work during their first year.
The new guidance I’ve heard in consulting is that if you’re not benched then proposal work is “optional”. Considering you’re new, I would turn it down before you flash forward 6 months and you’re working 60 hours a week because you said yes to too much at the beginning.

I took one of those proposal opportunities right after I joined and I found it beneficial.
It was stressful and I felt like I was drinking from the fire hose…but I met some great people who were very helpful and gracious. I helped present the proposal to the client and we won the business, so it felt like it was worthwhile.
^ KPMG is spot on. You’re not gonna get promoted year 1 so it’s more beneficial for you to focus on doing your project work well. If I could go back I wish I had known I could say no.
Not bad at all.
I say No to things all the time and I’m 9 months in.
Focus on your networking and finding a project that makes sense for you.
Firm initiatives and proposal work is useless for you right now.
Thanks everyone! I will go ahead and politely decline to focus on project work
