I had a micro manager constantly checking in on me, so I told him I would check-in more. For a full 2 weeks giving him hour by hour updates. He told me to stop by week 2 and now we do bi-weekly calls.
You’re my hero. I’m going to try this

Maliciously comply. SA1 has a good example.
Managing a micromanager is an "inside-out" game; you cannot change a toxic personality or a narcissist, but you can control your reaction and the narrative. Start by word-smithing your interactions to be proactive rather than defensive. Use "micro-studying" of their behavior to anticipate their moves and set firm boundaries.
The most powerful tool is the Clarification Recap. Since isolation and gaslighting thrive on verbal ambiguity, never speak to HR or a toxic boss without a follow-up trail. After every meeting, send an email: "To ensure I’m performing above expectations and tracking on the same page, I’ve summarized my notes and next steps below. Please let me know if I’ve misunderstood anything." This forces them to move the goalposts in writing, which they rarely want to do.
Educate yourself on what is actually legal versus just "bad leadership." While you can use "malicious compliance" to make yourself a difficult target, remember that HR works for the company, not you. If you can’t outlast the boss, protect your brain chemistry and self-worth by finding a place where you are treated fairly
This is the best way. Been using it my whole career. Unfortunately they will move onto another victim as you will no longer be fun.
Me and my entire team (20+ folks) reported our manager for micromanaging. Manager would message every one of us individually asking where we were if our teams status went from green to yellow. The result is said manager was removed from the engagement.
Takeda1 no, was on a B4 BFSI engagement.
Send them an email for EVERY task you complete. Then when they confront you, bring up that they always seem like they want to be involved.
Have tacos every day for lunch and fart when they come around.
Lol, it's not enough..
You need foods with Sulphur.....those are the best!
Crank up the Ludacris
Ask "What does success look like here?" Get crystal clear on deliverables and deadlines. Once expectations are locked, you can point back: "Per our agreement, I'm on track for Friday."
You manage up ⬆️ it’s not in their nature to give you space
Are they micro managing everyone or just you?
Lean in hard to their micromanagement. If they ask you for updates, provide inane updates, every hour or third minutes, make it as annoying as possible so they get the message and learn to take a step back.
