For the current conflict, AI is being used to do real time sigint and GIS/geospatial data analysis to make live updates to targeting lists. For national security reasons, you’re not going to hear more about this until after we’re done.
Ah yes, that's been successful seeing as how we bombed literal paintings of aircraft.
Thinking the tech is just not there yet. Seeing more stories of companies creating error riddled outputs due to AI. But it’s still early days, AI will get better at an exponential rate and it’s just a matter of time before the success stories start overtaking the failure stories.
When the microwave over was invented the manufacturers and consumers saw it as the magical multipurpose kitchen appliance. Recipes for baking, cooking etc. were published in lifestyle magazines. Took a few years before people figured out what it’s good for: reheating and popcorn.
Same with AI we are in the early experimental era with vendors trying to sell generic AI as the miracle tool. But the real success stories are narrower use cases (Claude Code for coding, Skimle for interview analysis, Arcada for interactive presentations etc.) where the LLM is harnessed to do specific things well.

They are using Claude for this current war. Arguably the biggest story of the globe right now. Tech section of almost any major publication talks about how it is used by some company or the other.
You are right that it hasn’t shown the ROI that justifies crazy investments, yet. I think it is early days to judge that. It may fizzle out or it may not.
ohh well the emperor needs to return clothes to the palace.. employers have to rehire again due to bad AI investments
