I'm navigating a shift as well and have found that it is almost impossible to get past the new screening systems, even if you are staying in the SAME field. The tech is more precise, which can make it less intelligent bc if you are missing a specific word, no one will even see your resume. The only way I have been able to move ahead is through asking people I know in fields I'm interested in to have a 15 minute Zoom chat or a call so I can get their advice. This has led them to introduce me to folks in THEIR networks, who have been able to get my resume to human hiring managers. And THAT has led to the interview phase. I'm treating this like the AI filters don't exist, basically! I've gotten traction way faster. Hope this helps.
My challenge with recruiters so far has been that I paid to have my resume made AI friendly, and now everyone I've been reaching out to refers me to their "associate" to overhaul it again for a fee. Then that second person wants to send it to another person for an additional fee. I can see a scam 100 miles away, & it makes it tough when a person is trying to find work and keeps running into these scams. So sad.
Honestly the networking part is doing a lot of the heavy lifting here. The ATS stuff can feel dumb bc one missing keyword and your resume just disappears, so getting a real person to pass it along is huge.
I’ve had better luck treating each app like a keyword matching game too, not just a polished resume. If the posting says one exact phrase over and over, I make sure it shows up in my bullets and summary in the same wording. I also ran a few versions through ResumeJudge and Jobscan just to see what was getting missed.
Also worth checking whether your resume is getting mangled by headers, tables, or weird spacing before you send it out. A lot of systems will skip half the page and you never even know. What kind of roles are you targeting, and are you mostly going through Workday / Taleo type portals?
Networking is the key. AI filters eliminate great candidates and most companies find candidates through their employees networks anyway. So far AI has just been an immense roadblock in the hiring process.
Look at a company called RUAN that’s who I work for now they are always looking for drivers in different states and stuff they flew me out to Georgia for training and all rental car and room and food paid for pretty cool all they ask u to have money for is when u not with them like dinner and stuff but other then that man I tell you what that training check was fat I mean over 2200 bucks plus I was shocked but I also get paid pretty nice on the job part to all the ot I can get with them and they never complain about it I’m doing at least 10 hours or every week and we get paid every week but enough of that but yeah man try them if you have not bro hope it goes good for you and do you have a cdl? Cause what I do don’t require one but I’m sure pay for cdl is different u know but yeah
I no longer have a CDL /medical card and can not renew my medical card.
I am looking for something outside the transportation industry if possible.
Thank you for your advice anyway.
I know your felling.. I lost my CDL since I’m a non domicile with daca and I was a truck driver for almost 5 years 0 accidents it took me almost a month to be able to get a job. Now everything is done with AI and makes it harder to get a good job a lot of the jobs out there ask for to much for low pay 😓🤦🏽♂️
After you find the job you’re looking for and apply online, call the place directly and ask about the position. See if you can go in and drop off a résumé to the hiring manager or head of the building. I’ve done this a few times and got an interview on the spot.
There are lots of scam jobs on these apps. Take the extra time to do the research on the company’s website and apply to both places.
