Commenting because I’m looking for answers too
Hi!
I would start by getting clear on what specific impact does their behaviour have on you. In addition to, what I can assume, feeling frustrated - is there any feedback you’ve been receiving from other people in the business that have negative impact on your performance?
Depending on that I would either change my thinking about the circumstance or see what’s within my control that I can do to potentially change the circumstance.
With that in mind, I would have a chat with my boss to express how I feel (in a nice, professionals yet firm way) - how I feel like I haven’t been getting enough credit for all my work which at times feels demotivating; how I´d like to have more ownership of all that I´m bringing to the table... how I appreciate all their support and at the same time would like more autonomy at work. (something along those lines.)
At the same time, I would start/continue documenting my ideas and results. Just in case that will be necessary at some point later on.
Wish you all the best!
Btw, if you’d like to share more details, feel free to message me/connect on LI.
I once had a manager that did this. On one hand, the work they present is from their department and if they are presenting it than they are backing it as good work. However, if they are passing the work off as their own, it is frustrating.
When I had this particular boss, I suggested in a very vague way that I would like to get some credit. Truthfully, I'm not sure he ever got the message, but I didn't want to sour the relationship. And when I didn't get any credit, I put watermarks in some of the technical portion of the work that the manager could not understand. For anyone who looked at the work, they would know it wasn't completed by the manager.
