Anxiety management will likely require therapy and skills building, such as thru DBT (dialectical behavior therapy). If you're unable to see a therapist due to time/resource constraints, there are a lot of free resources exploring the written and verbal subject matter for it. Youtube, google, books, you can even purchase the workbook for it. It was a life changer for me, as a veteran with severe anxiety and PTSD among other things. If nothing else, look into distress tolerance skills from DBT. Anxiety often ramps up internal distress even when externally it isn't time to stress. I hope you are able to get some relief or at least a better handle on it. Anxiety preemptively ruins a lot of things, especially in the work place.
Fellow veteran as well! Thank you for your service and advice. I will do some research to see if this will help.
I feel this. I am in this now. What is the root of the anxiety? Understanding that can help you manage it. Then, inner work (therapy, journaling), boundaries (setting and holding - I recommend the Book of Boundaries by Melissa Urban), self-care, repeat.
For me, I grew up straight middle class and am living a career and life with more responsibility and money than I’ve ever dreamed of. I feel like I don’t deserve it. (I do - this is a limiting belief.) I have also spent many years building a solid reputation, which I’m terrified of losing now that I have a team of 15 who are smart adults that I also…cannot control. I don’t set OR hold the right boundaries and I feel guilty for taking vacation even though I’m working crazy hours. I can’t turn work off at the end of the day (I mostly work from home) and because I work all the time, the work keeps coming. Hope the example of my own issues helps you examine yours.
I think I’ve learned to put a mask on at work and just work through it. I mostly work from home, so I can smile on camera and then turn the meeting off and lose my shit if I need to. I find that physical activity and eating healthier foods (& limiting drinking alcohol) also helps me a lot. What’s more challenging for me is keeping a positive mood at home after work. My spouse is unhappy in his job so it’s easy for us to be a collection of negativity. We’re working on it…
Executive dysfunction is the primary cause. Don’t even get me started on the anxiety of going to the grocery store…
I didn’t get my anxiety under control until I started working out heavily. That has been the ticket for me, but I understand that’s not for everyone. I also cut down on caffeine and noticed a huge difference. Therapy was not a solution for me and everyone is different. Sending you the good vibes my friend! 🫶🏻
My therapist just suggested I get a psych eval for a similar reason. He actually thinks I have ADD I've been struggling with for years but with my current VP promo my work and complexity has been too much to manage. Could this be the case for you too? I'm also looking for relief.
