Think they did a good job on this piece. It was a truly embarrassing moment for the firm, but I think it’s being handled as well as can be expected. Should go smoothly this year 🤞

I’ve been trying to do something for me before I logon for the day. For example, a workout, a walk, up or even sitting on the balcony in quiet with a beverage for 10 minutes. Also, EY has some great resources for Mindfulness! Take advantage.
Great idea. I keep wanting to try this but I get drawn to the computer instead. I have to make it happen!!
Two kinds of stress going on: your chemical stress and workload stress. If you literally don’t have time in the day, you need to reach out to get assistance with your workload. If you are an excellent performer, people will try to use you all the time. YOU may not be able to say no, but mention it to the manager (whose work you were doing first) that another project was dumped on you and ask which you should do first? Many times, that manager is going to walk down the hall and take care of it for you. There’s only so much “you” to go around so don’t burn yourself out trying to please people or you will end up in ashes blowing yourself out the door. If you are THAT valuable, burning you out is the last thing anyone would want to do to you! Make sure you tell people dumping work on you that you are backed up and you have things to finish, too.
Basically, speak up! 🤣
I think you just said to us what you need to say to your partner, STA1. Express how it is making you feel without threatening to leave but more that you do not want the client work to suffer in quality and timing. Say you feel like you are disappointing or going to disappoint everyone but you are only one person. If you don’t want to quit, you have to speak up. You also have to be ready to move on if they are going to remain unreasonable.
I’m also assuming you are good at what you do in which I know a place that appreciates folks like that! Haha 😆
I’m trying to come to terms with being only average.
If you are only an associate, it is way too early to know your skill level. Some people bloom later than others and in very different ways. The best part of this career is there are an amazing amount of paths you can take!
my senior said “you’ll end up disappointing someone eventually you can’t do it all” lol
Ain’t that the truth
Quit and find a new career. I just decided to do that. If you hate it now, you’re gonna hate it more in 5-10 years when it’s too late
I agree with you but gotta wait for the pandemic to be over to get anywhere with that
I’ve started using CBD oil. I find that just chilling out and not being anxious helps me focus better.
I have crippling anxiety. Lately I've just repeated the mantra that my anxiety only does more harm than good and it's helped me be at least functional.
Mental health days
I took one and I regret telling my team it was a mental health day. There's definitely an awareness gap when it comes to mental health. From now on I'm gonna say something vague about health issues or make up another excuse to not come into work
I have found a few herbal supplements that have helped me a lot, I often have trouble sleeping due to anxiety and stress from work. Some of the items I have success with are gabba and L theanine. Gabba I have often taken like 1,200-1,500 mg before bed and after a few days of this I feel much better.
Download InsightTimer if you have an iPhone and try listening to some of those relaxation recordings before going to sleep. Helps me clear out the noise before getting to sleep and I find I feel more rejuvenated when I wake up
Clif Smith our Mindfulness Leader has a good body scan one on there!
Please know you aren’t alone! We all handle stress and anxiety differently and I think most suggestions are great, but you need to find what works for you. Personally I know I need a long walk and to keep the TV off once i start working. Also calling those you may have previously chit chatted with in the office to vent helps. It’s not the same but those relationships save my sanity !
Definitely feel this. I faced the reality that I will work as hard as I can for my own satisfaction that I did the best I could. I’m at a point that even if I work all day everyday, people still have something to say I can do more of so I just do the best I can
Yeah, the only time I feel like my team is satisfied is when I've had three hours of sleep
I’m looking for a new job right now... I’ve tried... but I just can’t anymore!!! I even forgot my dad’s bday because I was working so hard. :/ no one cares if you’ve been on the phone, emailing and working from 8am to midnight nonstop.
Same here! I forgot my 2 year old niece’s birthday. Told her I can’t talk uncle gotta work. I feel like trash. Now I know I need to make changes and it starts with looking for a new job outside of public. Hang in there, you are not alone my friend.
It may feel like you have no time in the day but the truth is, whatever you’re willing to give, PA expects 10% more. Set boundaries for yourself, take that 10 minute walk outside at “lunch time” and put yourself first. Easier said than done but this will pay dividends in your physical and mental well-being long term.
Better yet, I echo the comments above, leave PA!
4-7-8 or 4 square breathing when I’m ramping into a mini panic attack. There’s great visuals for them on google too. I have them bookmarked for work
Hang in there
Set boundaries
The people asking you to do things aren’t aware of your other obligations. They won’t die if you say “no” or “I can do that, but I’m booked until next week”
Speak to a professional if you need help, we are educated folks, but not always in how to deal with stress
I would like to know as well.
Try CBD or ashwagandha (Whole Foods has it in pill form)
I’m in a DBT therapy group and am learning some amazing techniques to help with my anxiety and improve my focus. We meet on Zoom, and I love it. It’s in NYC - not sure where you are OP but I’d definitely look into it. The place I’m using actually takes my insurance too.
I started taking propranolol. I have Xanax to take as needed for higher anxiety/panicky situations. Take a minute to breathe/meditate as well.
