I think it depends on the company you are trying to work from (prestige) and how you market yourself on your resume and in your interviews. It’s definitely possible

At AWS, it is incredibly hard. Either need a relationship with existing PMs, or come with startup experience. Especially for greenfield products. We also have an entirely different pay band for external facing PMTs 😅

Also, think about PM how people think about PE. You can be on buy side, you can be on ops team. You’re still doing PE, but very, very different.
With PM, most consultants here couldn’t get the external facing PM roles for sexy products. Most are a better fit for internal tools. You’ll have a leg up being internal, but usually takes a good bit of networking
