No, that article was an exaggeration especially when compared to consulting.
I can’t speak to other FANG on WLB, but with coworkers who came from Google, it varies by team. The perks at Amazon are certainly less but the RSU model has been more lucrative historically.

Most people don’t have to work more than 50 hours a week but if you are the kind of person that will take on more responsibility, Amazon will take whatever you are willing to give.
The feedback is direct, that can hurt people’s egos but I appreciate it, it’s faster. PPT does allow for a lot of BS and Amazon docs force you to demonstrate depth of understanding.
If your documents and numbers don’t hold up, you’ll get called on it. If you’re feelings get hurt, it isn’t personal.
My travel is generally less, I don’t have to waste as much time on garbage BD or thought leadership for partners to have some pitch deck that never gets read or find hours to park in a code for them to hit a utilization number.
