S&O, no doubt, 100%
Advisory is risk focused, S&O is consulting focused. Very different types of work. S&O is on a stronger growth trajectory. Advisory might have less competition for partner but will make fewer.
Advisory is not part of the Consulting firm, it’s part of the Audit firm. Different pay scales, expectations, etc. Consulting SC about equivalent to Advisory M in terms of tenure, experience, capabilities, expected output.
As always what most have said about Advisory is wrong. It is not just audit. I’m leaving Advisory but we have financial advisory, analytics, cyber, etc. We do tech implementions and plenty of other things that are typically held in consulting at other big 4. S&O is just a bunch of superiority complexers
S&O
DD1 I made the exact same as my peers in consulting... you guys clearly have no idea what you’re taking about.
S&O is much better. The ONLY people that will even try to argue otherwise, are working in advisory.
I don't know what Advisory does aside from security work. What kind of work do you want to do?
S&O... Also SC in S&O and Manager in Advisory are the same level.
You’ll get paid more in consulting and advisory is looked upon below consulting at Deloitte
OP, the only perks difference is at M level, you get a 6th week of PTO vs 5 at SC and below. So a little longer to reach that in DC.
Ex-S&O here. By far the best group in the firm. Probably harder working than most of the other groups of work life balance matters to you.
This is fascinating seeing one part of D D’ing another. You guys are pieces of work...
I am telling you, whilst Advisory is no more or less than consulting at D, what is evident about the culture at D is that none of the groups work in harmony. There is strict competition often even for the same proposals from different groups. "Green Dot" aka one Deloitte is non existent.
S&O
D1 - it’s a project risk advisory type role. I want to get out of pure IT implementation delivery roles like I’ve done on ACN implementations, and do shorter term roles and making recommendations etc , which seems in line with Advisory?
Thanks everyone. One other question - can anyone comment on any differences in compensation beyond base pay (such as perks/expense policies or 401K match etc) in one group versus another? Or is the only difference truly the type of work performed? I was pushed into CD&O at ACN so once bitten twice shy!
Policies / benefits packages are the same.
Thanks P1 - Sounds like I just need to figure out what’s the better fit then. Appreciate all the help!
"it depends"
