Buying things from Canada.
The only thing that's going to be "liberated" is my cash when my Ford dies and I go to buy a new Honda. I'm not convinced that foreign imports harm American industry. It's more about ensuring Americans can pay a reasonable price for items that aren't made in America any more. Even domestic car manufacturers depend on raw materials imported from other countries. I wonder if Trump will hike the price of his $60 Bibles, made in atheistic China, to $100 to cover the additional cost of the import tariff? I also wonder if the billions of dollars in contracts with Elon Musk and other Trumpist oligarchs will fall under the watchful eye of DOGE? I don't think there's a scuba tank big enough for me to hold my breath for that to happen.
I used to work in automotive and it is mind boggling how global supply chains are. Labor in developing nations is so cheap the US simply can't compete while maintaining the current prices.
The thought of GM/Ford/Stellantis being "American cars" is absolutely false. A 100% American made car does not exist for the 2024 model year and hasn't existed for a while. A cursory Google of the "most American cars" show
1) Tesla Model Y
2) Honda Passport
3) VW id4
4) Tesla Model s
5) Honda Odyssey
6) Honda Ridgeline
7) Toyota Camry
8) Jeep Gladiator
9) Tesla model x
10) lexus tx
