Depends on your firm, but from what I observed, as long as you’re profitable, they won’t punish you.
Probably a hot take, but the associates that repeatedly make mistakes are sometimes the same ones that churn/take 5× as long to perform a task and their time gets heavily written off. I don't think what you bill matters as much as what is actually collected when it comes to this question.
I’m at above 90% collections
Maybe the better question is how long can you keep hitting hours if you don’t stop making mistakes.
Yup I have to figure something out
I’ve been a mediocre performer for about 7 years at two different firms. I left a larger firm to go to a very small firm so I could work less. I bill just enough to meet expectations but keep my collections high - usually 92-96%. I am a personality hire though so I feel like I get the benefit of people knowing I’m not here to work hard. I’m there to collect my paycheck and crack jokes. I’m sure it will catch up with me eventually but I think I have a solid 18 months at this new place before that happens.
Didn’t realize I’d come across a mirror. Dang. You and I are the same. My downside is I struggle with the 100+ little tasks that need to get done. I’d rather have a long brief and all the preparation that goes into it. Keeps me focused and tunnel vision. Otherwise, I’m a total scatterbrain.

What kind of mistakes and who is responsible for fixing the mistakes if not you?

Same bro same
Freud said there are no mistakes. Maybe you don’t really want to do this work for a living.
F - I’m profitable for my firm (for an associate). I’ve been out of school for a while but am newer in my area of law.
