How long do you need to stay after lateraling if you hate it and want to go a different firm or in house? Does it change if you went from a lifestyle firm to big law and back to a different lifestyle firm?

Another firm, particularly a similar one, could burn bridges. Firms almost never begrudge going in-house: they may grumble but they understand that those opportunities aren’t always available and lateral moves are hard to time and predict.

The time period between moves will matter less if you're going lifestyle firm>Big Law>another lifestyle firm. Every partner at a lifestyle firm will understand you wanting to leave Big Law, and they may even consider it a positive that you tested the waters and decided it wasn't a great fit. It also shouldn't matter much for in-house unless you've had a lot of moves and will objectively appear like a job hopper.

Could you name a couple of lifestyle firms? Are they still AmLaw 100? Are they usually mid law or boutique?

For those using voyager, does it take a really long time for deposits to settle? It's been like 1.5 weeks, my cash has been taken out of my bank account a while ago, but voyager still has all my deposits as pending.

I can still trade with the pending deposit, but I'm just wondering since I'll eventually withdraw some.

Could you please suggest shall I continue with c++ or shall I go with other platforms. Since I am getting very low package.

I was offered a contractor role (~20 hours a week) at 90/hour. This is extremely attractive because it’ll double my income (and the tax deductions from 1099 are solid). With that being said, I also want to see what kind of conflicts I can see given that I’m at a B4 firm.

I get the whole “you can’t have a second job” thing and don’t care but I’m actually worried about causing major conflict of interest.

How did you learn those skills, and what types of documents do you speed read in practice? I do mostly litigation and am thinking that speed reading would help with research but maybe not things like doc review where you need to review for both responsiveness and privilege.

I have ADD and occasionally make small mistakes in my work, like leaving a word missing when editing sentences, small formatting errors or leaving an internal comment in drafts sent to clients. All partners have been very understanding and care about the quality of my work, and no client has ever complained. Partners and clients praise my work.

But now, one partner has become super mad and when I explained ADD, he said:

Just joined a firm where they had appeared to be expanding their corporate group and kept seniors fairly happy. I come on my first day and find out those seniors have left for v10 firms, leaving me much closer to the fire than I expected. I can’t seem to shake this really uneasy feeling that I’m about to be demolished.. Should I trek along as normal or keep my ear to the ground for another move...

Beginning to consider going in house (4th, corp) - I really haven’t thought about what I want, partly because I’m not sure what’s out there/attainable. Is it a bad idea to start by applying to a couple positions that interest me and seeing where that gets me? I’ll of course prep for the interviews but am afraid to burn potential bridges if I ultimately decline because I’m still figuring things out.

Does anyone enter a “f*ck up” spiral and how do you get out? Like when you miss a nit or even larger typo in a brief or miss an issue in a sub/cite and someone calls you out in it, and then you doubt every proof you do, get anxious about f*cking up, and inevitably f*ck up again. Trying to decide if I’m burnt out after three crazy months or if I just suck at this job and should hang it up if I can’t get it back together soon. I don’t trust myself anymore.
