If you believe that, you're not looking hard enough. I will say it feels like a bit of a small city, but I like that about it.
That’s nonsense! Why haven’t you travel outside Austin? Hill country? San Antonio?
"There's plenty to do in Austin! Just go outside of Austin!" What a wild comment.
So much going on in north Austin and south Austin
Enthusiast
8 years, not bored at all. Like most cities, there’s a constant stream of people moving in and out.
Do you keep going to the same places? I haven’t ran into “the same people” at all.
Love it - will never leave. I felt the same way as you when I lived in NYC - it’s up to you to find fun spots!
22 years living in austin
Born here in austin, I moved away for 12 years for college, jobs, and grad school.
Every city will end up feeling small (lived in nyc for a while). Ultimately, if you aren't vibing with what a city offers, maybe it's time to make a change.
Grass isn't always greener, but exploring is a part of life!
I love living in Austin!! I've been here for a little under 5 years and have really loved it so far, I like being more familiar with an area and having an established routine and favorite places, but I also feel like there's always new things in the area I can try as well, so it really feels like a good balance for me.
Love Austin. I am disappointed with so many high end Instagram friendly restaurants and fewer neighborhood eateries, but if you look hard enough you’ll find there’s lots to discover. I love all the new Asian restaurants that combine amazing food with everyday prices. I love all the boot camps, classes and gyms. I love Ladybird lake and easy access to the Hill Country and small towns. And while I live in Central Austin, there’s tons of new music and food options popping up in the suburbs and outskirts of town. What I don’t like is traffic, but it’s far worse in bigger cities.
I've been in Austin several years and the culture here truly sucks. No one wants to form a community or make new friends. Everyone just wants to have Instagram-able experiences with their bubble that they never leave. Also, if you don't like beer, like me, that limits what to do in Austin by like half. Austin has such a strange hardcore culture around beer. Vast majority of what to do in Austin is drink beer lol
I’m sorry this has been your experience. Maybe venture out of your comfort zone a bit? I’m relatively new to austin but I can say I haven’t had this experience at all. So many close knit communities - maybe it’s different across genders..?
I’m interested to know what exactly your hobbies are? What types of people do you tend to come across? Could it be the spaces you’re in?
Do you stick to one part of town? Like if you don’t leave central you’re really limiting yourself. Sounds like you don’t branch out enough for someone who is craving more.
My thoughts exactly. There are soooo many types of people in Austin but if you’re frequenting the same types of places with the same types of crowds, you probably won’t come across anything new.
