I started meditating recently. Someone in class told me you have to try it at least 10 times (10 meditations) before something clicks -- I can vouch that's true. It seemed like it wasn't doing anything and then one day when I was really upset about something I was able to kind close a door on it in my mind and put it aside. It's weird, but since that day I'm able to say "not now" to any random thought and control my mind to focus on what's in front of me or just avoid stressful thoughts if I can't do anything about them. My class uses this app called "insight timer", it has meditations of different lengths and different types. Check it out.
When I started I also used an app called ananda for kids. It has a bunch of really short and easy meditations that helped me build up to longer ones.
Wow thanks guys, this is really encouraging. I have just started using headspace and it's great too! I've done around 13 sittings and it feels great to escape.
I used to always have this feeling that I want to "just run away from everything". Meditating provides me with this and makes me realize I just need a little break from myself.
Headspace changed my life. Improved work performance, family life, I am more relaxed and way less anxious. I manage stress much better now
I take a bath at the hotel at night and close my eyes for a few minutes. Reassess the day and then go blank.
I meditate regularly when I'm on the road! I find that just 5-10 minutes in the morning can really change my whole day. I also try and practice "waking" mindfulness meditation while at work (in stressful meetings especially). I feel like it has, without question, made me a better consultant and a happier human being.
Breath in 5 secs. Hold 5 secs. Exhale 5 secs. Hold 5 secs. Respeat for 10-20 mins. Game changer
I do guided imagery with Belleruth Naperstak. Yes, it does work and benefits both. Enjoy!
True true!
Everyday, I repeat a mantra audibly, then consciously. Couldn't live without it.
Try calm. I find it better than headspace
Agree EY1... I do that when bored in meetings lol
I learned TM a million years ago when it only cost $100 and still do it intermittently.
