So I've had 2 hiring managers and several recruiters from Amazon reach out to me about applying for some open positions with the company (android). I completed the coding assessment and now they want me to go through a round of 5 hour interviews next week. Is there a good chance I'll be hired if engineering managers are reaching out to me? I'm really not sure how badly I want to work for them and I don't want to be laid off months after being hired on. Anyone know what Amazon hiring is like?
Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

You should expect and plan to be laid off. At some point. And if you don’t get laid off for a long time, like 26 years, you’re probably underpaid, or work on something so stable that anyone could do it
The good news is that the layoff is usually for the best. Most people I know who have been laid off landed somewhere much much better.
Just dealing with my first and only layoff now, 10 years into my career
Edit- didn’t mean for this to be a reply to ACD1 but agree with everything they said
Fired twice. It's cool. If you're doing anything worth doing some people will disagree. Some of those people can fire you. If you stick to your guns sometimes they will. And you'll just move on to somewhere that appreciates you.
3 times. Better opportunities. Life too short dealing with a shitty boss
