I wouldn't throw out a resume because of MBB vs T2. Also, name of company alone won't get you very far without the right experience and performance
Rising Star
Some headhunters will specifically search for MBB profiles.
A recruiter for a specific role you apply to isn’t going to place a ton of more weight. Your specific experience and career progression will matter more
Most folks don’t know, or don’t care; some shops look specifically for ex-MBB and recruit accordingly
FWIW I get 80-90% similar places that reach out to me now as I did at Deloitte, biggest difference is that they put me 1-2 levels higher
Another way to look at this. You typically get one of 3 types of companies:
- Sophisticated, high paying ones who are able to recognize the right talent based on many signals. MBB certainly doesn't hurt but it's not going to wow the hiring manager as most people at the company also have a variety of impressive backgrounds
- High paying ones who are obsessed with pedigree. Probably not the best culture you'd want to stay at long term
- "Low paying"/less sophisticated ones who are enamored by fancy resumes. You may be able to get a higher title initially but your ceiling at the company will be lower. Trying to jump later from higher role at lessor company to lower role at higher tier company usually doesn't work well
MBB is multiples better, no question. You get many more “at bats” and with bigger opportunities
Is the recency of MBB experience important? Or just that you have it on your resume as past experience?
The MBB alumni network and recruiting machine is much stronger than EYP. We place people into some pretty questionable roles and don’t have a good system, alumni database, or things like garden leave (is this still a thing?) like MBB does
It definitely makes a difference lol
