How much money / what GS level would you accept to go to a federal role? The salary cut is steep but a better quality of life is tempting.

Not USAO or anything political. This would be an advisory role at somewhere non-controversial, so I'm not worried about the Trump effect.

Paid off loans, built a nest egg, bought a house (that you can easily afford mortgage/taxes/maintenance on the new salary), and looking to settle down. But if you’re still young and single, grind away

Depends on your YOE. I wouldn't leave for anything less than a GS-13.

sigh* last week Saturday my s/o & I broke up after our 3 year relationship. & it really been affecting me negatively — not eating, autopilot mode, self isolation & diving deep into work. Today I decided to go outside, where I picked up some food to go and went to an outdoor movie by myself; where I had the realization I just really enjoy being by myself. Idk, maybe I’m just better off single after so many failed relationships/am I being dramatic? but anyone else has given up on love?

What do you hate about BigLaw?
I actually love it. I was a paralegal in BL during law school. Maybe I am use to the environment? What am I missing? Help me remove the rose colored glasses. The cases are interesting, pay is fantastic, offices are beautiful, and the research resources are a big reason why I never want to leave. Sure there are partners/senior associates that don’t respect you or your time. That happens everywhere and would mean you need to move firms or sections. What am I missing?

I’ve been at a job for a few months and hate it - partners set unrealistic deadlines, micromanage, and create work that truly is not necessary/push urgency when there is no real urgency. I had other offers prior to accepting this job that may still be options, and going back to my old job (for a pay cut) might also be an option. I can’t tell if this is just burnout, growing pains, or just an untenable work environment. Would you ride it out for a year at new job or pursue other options? HELP!
