Personally I would target a minimum of 30% when switching companies. 25% isn’t bad but you can do a bit better in the current environment I think.

likefunny

Especially if it’s in same service line definitely target 30% or more bump. You’re taking a risk losing out on your current network & should get compensated heavily for that.

likehelpfulsmart

This is key. Everyone forgets that risk with switching.

I told the last firm that called me I wouldn’t consider moving laterally without a 20% bump, starting at a salary over $200k. They went with someone cheaper. Whatever.

Better question: why leave one firm for another?

K2, Idk about the 80s but I see the trend on BLS in recent history is pretty consistent across the board with a decline in tenure. https://www.bls.gov/news.release/tenure.t01.htm

I left for a 65% raise

~190. Started off in assurance in a low COL city so... criminally low

Very true! Thanks guys, I am pretty comfortable with where I’m at so honestly compensation would be the biggest factor for me to move.

I took a 33% pay increase... 16% above projected senior salary increase. Bye Bye the big K...

Not for less than 35%. You will be at the top of the pay band so you can count on the raises for the next 2-3 years after moving to blow.

If you had a offer with PwC and Deloitte, which would you accept and why? What if one firm offered 10% more base salary than the other?

Personally I’m already at PwC and know how things work, I would choose PwC over Deloitte… but if Deloitte offers 10% more, I’d go with the one that gives more.. big 4 are big 4, both names are good on the resume… why not take the one with more money?

My firms bonus structure is based on “billed out” (what a partner actually bills to the client) dollars instead of actual hours billed. So you can work 2000 hours but the bonus is based on only 1850 hours, because 150 got cut over the year. Is this normal? It seems entirely unfair and makes it impossible to get a bonus.

My son is entering Kindergarten and his (great but hamstrung) public school can only offer 60-85 minutes per day for remote learning, 3 days per MONTH in-school. Just not feasible for a working mom in this industry. So I met some parents, we hired a private teacher, and I’m rolling with a 4-family homeschool pod. I’m keeping my kid in public school, hoping the curriculums can align and not go crazy. Love and strength to all moms and dads and partners out there. It’s tough - but so are we!

From talking to students at multiple M7 schools, it seems like all of the BB/MBB/FAANG companies recruit at most if not all of the schools . So if you're planning on recruiting for one of these, is there really a major difference in career opportunities between each school? Asking because it seems like some schools are specifically known for finance vs consulting vs tech, but if the companies are all recruiting at all these schools, the differences don't seem as pronounced to me.
