I took a 25% pay cut at an early stage startup (but equity) to have the privilege of leaving at 6-7 and not be expected to work weekends. So worth it. Got my life back.
I make good money and leave between 5:30-6 most days. Work in pharma!
The hell with that; how much of my salary do I have to give back in order to leave by 7?
Or you’re in a part of the industry where other people’s poor time management skills determine when you get to go home.
I’d take being paid for the 50+ hours I actually work.
They don’t pay me enough as is
We should move to shift work. Some people work 7-4 others work 3-midnight
Why don’t you just leave at 3:30?
And take Friday’s off while you are at it.
None as long as you can get your work done by then.
They don’t pay me more to work way more than hours. Why should I take less to work less than 40? It would finally even out in about 10 years.
Zero. I’m here for the work, not to get out of it.
Are there any CFOs on this app? I’d love to have some of them weigh in on how we could fix this broken business model
what time do i have to come in?
FSC1, I’m not giving anything up, just trying to evaluate between different offers.
Seriously, though. Here’s what I would consider:
How often do you typically work after hours now? If it’s significant, would they be able to guarantee you’d be able to leave at 3:30? Is there a threshold of 5-10 hours/week before you can charge them overtime or freelance hours?
Is your workload or job description changing, if not, how are they managing your current workload but cutting your hours (basic math says that’s not possible)
How long have you been with the company? Have you “proven” yourself or are they offering this to you because you’re a model employee and they’re recognizing your worth?
Basically, what I’m getting at is...NOT MUCH, or NOTHING.
Don’t ever take less on a handshake. Take what you’re worth. Just because you’re putting in less hours (you actually might not be) doesn’t mean your expertise isn’t worth it.
I’d take less vacation, and keep the same pay.
Salaries have stagnated as hours have increased so, historically speaking, we’re kinda being paid for those hours
Assuming there’s anything to cut from my salary
All of it. I'll do it for FREE, chicken!
