Wanted to highlight Prudential Financial’s hiring practices. They rescinded my offer once I attempted to negotiate the salary. The official reason given was that I didn’t “sound excited enough”.
They then admittedly gave the offer to someone who was less qualified. There were other red flags throughout the job offer process that the HR team should overall be ashamed of.

Look at those firms and see which ones recruit on campus. Not sure if all 3 do, but haven't looked recently. Google each company and Rice University you should get a link if they recruit on campus. If they come on campus, you have as much a shot as anywhere.

Rice MBA here. Not sure of current situation, but when i graduated in 2017 only 2 or 3 people in my class got into mbb. Rice is not a core school for BB - they did not do campus recruiting at rice when i was there. Mckinsey does campus hiring, but very minimal. You should check employment stats, the school will publish each year. It should be on the business school website careers section.
Hmm I guess things changed a bit recently then. We have Mck and Bain coffee chats with the CDO upcoming. BCG hasn’t released theirs yet.
I think them joining Houston Dallas and Austin together also plays into UT’s feeder pool vs rice.
What route did you end up doing if you don’t mind me asking?
Make sure you don't hyperfixate on MBB. It's a great landing spot but it's not the be all and end all.
Without a consulting or corp strategy background, strategy consulting is going to have a challenging ramp up. Plenty of firms have solid teams with good training programs, assuming you want to be good at strategy work and not just get the name and bounce.
Good stuff
It is possible to get into MBB Houston from rice MBA but it’s not as common as from other / “better” schools
So you are there, you know it's possible. Focus on making yourself a top candidate. Dig a bit deeper into the past few years stats. How many interviewed versus how many got offers. That is the stat you really need. If they track it applications to interviews is a good stat too
Post bachelors there’s quite a few. Post MBA it’s a bit less but theres still a chance. FT program is an easier funnel but I came in through the PT program which was a bit harder. Probably way harder in general now because MBB has more people than work.
Do not discount case prep, especially if Rice's program is not case heavy. If you don't hit that out of the park, you aren't getting an internship.
