Thoughts on a Omega De Ville Prestige as a first luxury watch? Would be ~$7.5K USD at retail. Some friends have said great things about Omega as a starter, whereas others say it’s not worth it over a Rolex Oyster Perpetual (which would be similar in cost).
I personally love how clean the design is, the use of gold, and the thinner band as it links the watch … find the Rolex band design to be too chunky.

A lot of the manufacturers recommend service every 10 years. I’ve only ever serviced watches that developed problems. The service cost can be pretty expensive and will depend on what needs to be done and the cost of anything that needs to be replaced.
I do 10 years. No polish. Unless something is off before then or I’ve damaged it in some way.
I had a Rolex GMT II that I bought new in 2006 serviced in 2023. The service cost $1800 at the AD (which was Tourneau). The good thing about them is that they have a lot of branches around.
I get mine serviced whenever they need it - when time keeping gets noticeably off or something is broken.
Mine stopped working before I took it in. They guaranteed it for two years.
I have not serviced any of mine yet, some are 10+ years now, but I rotate them often so they get light use in average. All of them keep time perfectly right. Not sure if I still should take them because of oils drying and so on, but it's just too cumbersome for them to be shipped to Switzerland and back
That makes sense.
