Our kids still use ours some of the time but generally no longer as intended. They are now 9 and 6. One thing we probably wouldn’t have thought of at 18 months old is that we still have a lot of friends with younger kids that come over too so I’d see keeping it for at least the next 3 years.
As they get bigger the quality and structural integrity matters more than when they are young as they are swing etc from it sometimes in unintended ways.
We opted for a climbing dome (~$150 on Amazon) instead. We just got rid of it after 5+ years. It took up a lot less room and the kids are stronger for it. They would make a fort out of it all the time too with blankets and those big clips. We have three kids, for reference.
We have a park right through the tree stand behind our house and we're still going to build one so that they can just play where we can see from the patio, but we also have some open space after allocating some to playset.
Definitely tougher to know if you have to choose, maybe you could build a little swing set with room to expand and go from there if they use it?
We got one and they rarely used it. Was like $4k too. They do use the trampoline though but older now
Damn wtf, we're just buying lumber and stuff (lucky to be learning from a father-in-law who is handy) so I haven't priced it out yet but people are selling those rainbow sets used anywhere from free to 500 to 2500, never would have guessed it was that much new if that's the used price
We got one kit from Costco for 800. Built it over two days. Initially, they used it often. Now it's once every couple of weeks. When we have guest kids over, they get excited and our kids play too. They are 5 and 4.
My wife was trying to get us to buy one and I fought hard against it. My son does not play independently so I couldn’t see him using it that often. Instead we bought a zip line thing that attaches to a couple of trees that has a few things that hang from it such as a swing, climbing net, pull up bar, etc
It depends on the weather we get humor hot summers, so they don’t use it much in July / August. Cold winters also mean little usage between December and March, but in between they use it a lot kids are 8 / 3 now. It’s also nice for the neighbors to come over and hang. Definitely was worth it to us, especially now that the 3 year old is big enough to go out on his own (no fence), we can just watch him from the living room window.
Mine are 4 and 2 and we got a gorilla brand set. They go out every day and if we weren’t lazy parents they’d continue to do so in the winter months. It took up the majority of the yard but it feels worth it. We play in the driveway for other games
Alright so basically… it depends 😂. Makes sense. I’m pretty sure I’ll lose the battle with my wife on this one so what can ya do!
Don’t guess on big expensive toys. With a swing set look at it from an occupational therapist perspective. Does your kids seek sensory input? (Some kids avoid it!). If yes… What kind of sensory input do they seek? Take your child to a playground and or children museum several times and find out. There are many different kinds of swing sets get the components your kid likes!
