spend more time doing regulatory work in your current role

TBH I don’t know if junior in-house regulatory counsel roles exist. IHC is typically leanly staffed with minimal tools, support staff, or training.
At many companies, regulatory counsel is internal counseling as well as interfacing with regulators. That entry point is also how you get experience for those broader roles (am a former regulatory counsel).
What industry? That’s the key. “Regulatory” in house is usually specialized in a niche. I was a healthcare/life sciences regulatory associate and went into pharma in house. A regulatory associate in another niche wouldn’t be able to don my job and wouldn’t be hired.
I worked at law firms doing healthcare regulatory and transactional work for 4 years. Then went in house in a regulatory role for 2 years. Now I’m in a product counsel role but as I’m at a small pharma I do a lot of other stuff too and am also Privacy Officer for North America.
