Cap gains and corporate tax rates should be eliminated altogether

likefunny

I think they should actually hike corporate tax rate way up, but make dividends a pretax expense. Then change the cap gains, interest, and dividend tax rate the same as the income tax rates, so all income is taxed at the same rate.

There is a technique in persuasion where you tell the person a “flaw” up-front. This actually makes the person more likely to buy.

Where should the higher tax start? I think raising tax on people pulling in 500k+ isn’t a big deal (and I am hoping to get there 😁)

Bernie put it at 500k, but only a 2% increase at that point. If you actually earned 500k even, no change. 510k, a 200 dollar difference.

This may shock you, but some people care about more than their marginal tax rate.

I posit that some people care about than their effective tax rate also.

Trump tax cuts aren’t popular, if you’ve seen the polls

I think his base likes this comment. I don’t think he’s going to lose based on this. Not many people benefit from TCJA anyway....

Things like, fire departments and healthcare cost money. I am ok with more taxes can we also include the IRS doing my taxes ( like every other industrialized country) while we are at it tax bill Gates. The city he lives in Washington went bankrupt because all the rich inhabitants didn’t want to pay taxes.

The government should buy TurboTax and make it free to the taxpayers.

The government program is called VITA...

Not many people benefited from TCJA anyway? I think something like 65% of Americans paid less. Unfortunately only 40% think they did because Americans are stupid and don’t understand the difference between tax liability, tax withholding, tax credits, tax deductions, etc. I’m in audit and have a basic understanding and do my own return. One of my biggest pet peeves is when people refer to their tax return as their “tax refund” such as, “do you use a service to file your tax refund or do it yourself?”

Aren't the personal income tax cuts going away anyway in 2028 or 2026?
I agree with M1 on the corporate tax rate, it should be 0.

Biden wants to close the “stepped up basis” so-called “loophole.” That’s a pretty ambiguous statement, but I assume he means section 1014 (basis of property acquired from a decedent). But isn’t the reason for the step up that the property has been subjected to the estate tax?

I’m a corporate tax person, so I may be swimming outside my lane. Anyone have a different interpretation of this or can set me straight?

The race to the bottom!

I strongly think the tax benefits should not phase out based on AGI or taxable income - then the rich who can move politics will be more aligned with the average tax payers. They really care about small benefits too.

Hi all - any advice for a first time real estate investor looking to make their first purchase at the end of 2021.

I plan on saving $50K, for a $350-400K property in the Long Island, NY area for my first property. Does this sound reasonable? And does anyone have any experience & advice investing in the LI area?

Id like to rent it out for some positive cash flow that I can then start using to save for my 2nd property (sounds easy when I type it).

Thanks all for your input - stay safe!

So I’m in industry from big 4, and a colleague with same yoe comes from MBB. High paying tech firm. I think I work harder and produce quality content at speed, but they can hold executive conversations that tend to impress senior stakeholders.

Big 4 produces work horses and MBB produces leaders. Also they could be a work horse too since I don’t have full visibility.

Anyone have similar experiences or do I just suck at executive stakeholder management?

Recently promoted senior and the raise was surprisingly higher than expected. I had applied to a position before knowing about the promotion and raise. Not sure how to handle the situation, any advice is much appreciated!
