Had a recruiter reach out to me from AWS for a Cloud TAM role on the West coast. $100-160k appears to be the base salary range. 3yrs exp is the requirement. I work as a Cloud Architect now for gov in GCP. 3yrs Cloud exp. I have worked in AWS a bit and have the Associate SA cert. Is this a good fit and what could I ask for in total comp? I have worked in consulting for 15 years now and do not have a PMP. I believe that nothing can take the place of actual on-the-job experience and that other certifications are significantly more valuable (ex: platform-based ones). I understand certain government positions require it, but other than that, when I interview people for PM roles, I could care less if they have a PMP. In fact, I sometimes am less excited about a candidate when I see the PMP certification as opposed to lots of on-the-job experience. Pet Peeve: People who's signatures include "PMP". You're not a doctor damnit.
The government really loves PMPs and I’ve seen cases where you can’t bill to a PM code from the gov without one. Personally, I think they’re silly.
In government contracting, super valuable to be able to bill against certain codes or get bid on contracts. Outside of that, it's just letters. I have a PMP and have been in federal for 8 1/2 years.
I had the same q and looked into it. General response was it's mostly worth it if you want to do project management, and I don't. Cloud certs will prob be a better use of time
