You should give him some of your work and go home early.
Just say, you could be grinding more if you weren’t talking to me right now, so get lost.
Nod, smile and nickname them “FP” (future partner) for their ego stroke and don’t engage beyond that.
A trick I do is walk them back to their desk and then quickly go back to mine. Even better , I work remote
It sounds like you're in a tough spot with your coworker! If you're not on the same page with their work mentality, it might be helpful to set some boundaries. You could politely acknowledge their dedication but steer the conversation to more neutral topics. For example, you might say, "I admire your commitment, but I focus on maintaining a work-life balance. How about we chat about our weekend plans instead?" This way, you can still be friendly without feeling pressured to engage in their work mindset. If he continues to dominate the conversation, you might need to be more direct about your preference for less work talk.
Use “Do Not Disturb” Signals: If you need uninterrupted time, consider using visual cues, like headphones or a sign, to indicate when you’re focused on a task.

Good luck. This reminds me of why I like working from home.
Maybe give him 30 seconds . I really admire your dedication but I’m working **** and it’s very time sensitive . Turn around and go back to work. If he continues to interrupt you, flat out tell him. I really don’t have time to chat right now and need to finish this project. Go back to work. If persists. Just nod and go back to work. Hopefully he’ll get the message..
I just put in my headphones and pretend I don’t notice people when they come to chat
Sounds like an Andrew lol
