lol the only thing I think of when someone says Cooley is “ECVC.” Presumably they’re a good shop

Isn’t that their whole shtick?

Better than cravath and wachtell at ECVC if you can believe it!

like

Do Cravath and wachtell even do ECVC? Genuinely asking. Hard to imagine a founder wanting to work with the suits at those firms and I seriously doubt they could represent an investor on a series A with a $50-60k fee cap.

The only higher billing rate firm I know thatstill does some ECVC is Latham. Even they bleed partners to Goodwin and other firms because of internal politics on hours from what I hear.

They are #1 in this area and command a massive amount of market share.

Got two offers that I’m thinking through:
Context: 2 YOE, San Francisco
1. Consulting - 150k, fully remote, stagnant growth but easy to make a ton of money and get promoted, would probably move to MCOL if I take this role
2. Big Tech - 165k, in office role and opportunity to learn a lot and grow, great team and benefits

I'm looking to find a job like the Forward Deployed Engineer role Palantir Technologies in the UK.

I have become hooked on finding a job that involves solving the kinds of problems they presented during their interviews. Although I got to the final round my performance anxiety got the better of me (I think I wanted the job a bit too much...). I will reapply after working in a similar company.

Is it "deep tech" / "data science" or "smart enterprise" that they're doing? Any advice welcome.

Random partner asked a litigation-related question to a partner I frequently work with (i’m a transactional associate). My partner cc’d me and said for me to briefly look. Asked the library. They got me a great case. Sent it back. Now the random partner is asking for more cases in another circuit.

Working on some law firm applications tonight and it sucks that I know that I am so capable and have a strong work ethic but firms can’t see beyond grades or the fact that I didn’t go to a t14 law school or prestigious undergrad. I’ve worked twice as hard and feel like I’ve barely even gotten half as much. It’s discouraging sometimes especially because I worked so hard with pretty much no guidance (first gen, poc, low-income) to get into college and do well and then get into a t30 law school

I’ve made it 5+ years in a NY M&A practice and have consistent exceeding expectations reviews. I’ve had a few mental breakdowns because of work during this time, but thankfully made it through. What is comp like in Minneapolis firms? Do some pay significantly better than others, or are they all the same? Spouse’s family in MN so considering a move, but I make DPW scale currently (am a litigation associate) and the salary estimate I got from a firm in MN would be 40% less than what I currently make! Cost of living and hours requirement slightly lower in MN, but nowhere near 40%! Are there any options that would not result in a drastic pay cut?
