It means different things for everyone. Some view growth as a higher income. Others view growth as more power in the company or rank. It can be a combination of all these things.
Congratulations on your new role! This is something you will define for yourself. If you chase someone else's idea of success you'll end up unhappy.
Lol everyone so far is responding with super general takes when I think you’re looking for something more specific. I’m no expert in this area, but I think unlike BigLaw it’ll depend a lot on your specific company and how the legal department is structured. It may just be you helping out the GC, meaning your progression is that either someday that person leaves and you take their job, or you leave to go elsewhere. Other companies may have giant legal departments with many layers of roles, where you get promoted over time and may have a long successful career without ever getting anywhere close to the GC role (which could be a multi multi million dollar public company executive role). It’s harder to give a standard anonymous answer than it is at a firm.
I think what A2 is saying is generally correct. With corporate/client-side, the progression is ultimately going to depend on the structure above you. Sometimes you're in the same role for years depending on when people above you leave or retire, and I don't think it's AS fast as it would be in BigLaw
