What are you tired from? You just said you haven’t done much. Perhaps look for ways to step up, take some initiative. Look at what KPI’s are required for a promotion, and work at that level. At 8 months you likely barely even know your role yet. And no, why lie about what you’re doing? You’ll just set yourself up for failure if you get asked about it, or better yet are expected to perform at the Level you claim to be at, with no experience doing.
And be careful. Things NEVER change on their own. Try to be self aware. Make sure that the reason you aren’t getting more aren’t tied to you doing a bad job, or you not yet being competent at your role. And try not to make demands when you’ve only been with the company for 8 months. But document your REQUESTS and if you can do some excellent work that you can get to senior managements eyes, then you can explain that you want to excel, you want to grow, but you’re worried that your boss isn’t on board (or better yet, have that conversation WITH your boss)
Following because I’m in the same boat. Been at a new job for 7 months and I’m bored. I Don’t feel challenged. On a job search but not even sure what I want to do ‘when I grow up’
Yeah man I feel you. Staying longer didn’t really change anything for me as I felt like this a few months in. It’s tough but we’re both still young in our careers.
Don’t lie on your resume, won’t end well. I’m guessing you’ve done something worth a bullet or two I’m the last 8 months, review your job decryption for ideas.
Do you mean they don't give you enough work? That's too bad. You should be utilizing your skills for your own growth. If nothing's changed, you should start looking for a job elsewhere.
The feedback has been good. I had a long waited open discussion with my manager few weeks ago and he said he couldn’t ask anything more for me and that I have been doing a good job. I felt this job was dragging when I was 3 months and it’s the same 8 months in. I requested to have more responsibilities but my manager just has sit there knowingly I’m not occupied. It bothers me that I push myself to do more but I’m not given more work so I can learn when I request it.
Yes. Always a good idea to lie because it never comes back to bite you and you certainly can’t get fired if they find out what you said isn’t true.
Sorry for the sarcasm, but I just share my head that you’re suggesting it. Of course you shouldn’t lie—ever. That being said, look at your responses to questions and you’ll find your answer.
You can easily explain your reason for leaving in a positive way that makes you look good. Who wouldn’t want to hire someone who is looking to leave because they aren’t given more work??? That you discussed it with your boss shows you have initiative and have them open and honest feedback with a sincere request to be given more to do. That you want more work shows that you have a strong work ethic that prevents you from being satisfied with anything less than your best effort.
Use your imagination to describe your situation in a way that would cause an interviewer to see you in a positive light, not to fabricate.
Thank you for your words! I love this fishbowl. People are so helpful… yes I’m going to tell my interviewers that I’m not satisfied with the growth here at my current job and I want to be more challenged.
I wouldn't lie. that usually blows up in your face.
