I am currently a tax manager in public accounting considering making the jump to industry. Would appreciate feedback from anyone who has made the transition - workload/compensation/work-life balance

I made a vertical move pay was extremely better than if I took a promotion at Crowe, but I got lucky with multiple offers so I received the max offer from the company I preferred. But best move I made for my career at the time I needed to slow down. But it’s also very boring at times since you are only handling their business needs and not juggling. So if you think you can handle monatamy and not go crazy because it did take me a minute to chill. But oh my gosh not having to track hours and worry about what you are billing has made it worth being bored every few days. No harm in putting out some feelers and interviewing seeing what they offer.

Also not many new opportunities that allow wfh so if you are doing that now be prepared for a hybrid job offer.

I've done this, and all I can say is that you're interviewing the company and your future boss. Make sure it's a good fit for you. You will only have the one person directly over you in industry, unlike PA where you have half a dozen people overseeing you in some way. If you and your next boss jive, it can make your life very cushy. If you clash, it can be a real problem. (Imagine that all your work is for one partner, and their work style is completely different from yours and/or they don't like you.)

When I jumped, my new boss was fantastic. Seven months after I started, he decided to retire early. His replacement was right out of Mean Girls. My dream job turned into a nightmare. It was so bad that I went back to public accounting.

I have done this and went back to public accounting. I was bored. I much prefer the variety of work and dealing with clients that each have their own needs. That being said, I do not have children and am single, so public accounting is easier for me to have a work life balance.

Can anyone give me their honest opinion on working at Eli Lilly, the Indy site? I have a few coworkers that have worked there in the past but no one recently. I’m currently being recruited pretty seriously for a in-vivo technician position in the auto-immune team, but I already have a job lined up at Envigo as a small animal sx tech. Salaries would be comparable (Lilly would most likely be a little more with bonuses), but if the culture sucks, I’d hate to burn a bridge with Envigo.

Fellow enterprise tech sales fish, I’m interested to hear your perspective. I’ve been in a rut lately and seriously considering leaving sales. I think it’s primarily fueled by one thing:
After a 6 mo cycle I closed a large deal (4x the average deal size) prior to receiving delayed 2022 comp plans. The deal counts as a 2022 deal. On last years comp plan it would’ve paid out at 10%. This year it pays out at a measly 4%.

How do you/have you navigated your way through and out of these situations?

Given all the recent buzz about expected large raises around the big 4, I’d like to level set on the average salary for a 4th/5th year female senior manager in federal tax ( credits & methods group) in the Midwest - Chicago/Minneapolis/Detroit market. Anyone willing to share a range if they work in a similar area of tax / similar level? I recognize all groups vary greatly in salary expectations, so looking for input specific to my area. Current expectations set at 140-160k. Reasonable?

I interviewed for KPMG on 11/15 for a Senior role and the HR emailed me on 11/16 that everyone liked me but they think I should be hired as an Experienced Associate. I had a call with the HR on 11/17 wherein we discussed about my salary expectations and the HR said he will get back in a day. It’s been more than 10 days and multiple follow ups but still no response. I don’t think I was rude while talking to the HR, I just told my current salary and asked for min. that no. Did i miss the chance ?

Working for a senior who is beyond horrible. She talks to you like you’re stupid and makes it sound like you’re absolutely terrible at what you’re doing. She’s made 5 other associates cry during her 5 year career. Got someone fired and made another person quit. It’s known around the office that she can no longer have a female associate, because she talks down to females more than she does males. I came along and thought I could deal with it but she literally makes me want to not log on tomorrow.

I’m having trouble working in Tax. I’m overwhelmed and am feeling like I’m not producing my best work. I want to talk to someone at work about it but a) I don’t know who to go to and b) feel like it’s not worth it because there’s nothing that anyone can do but tell me to get a different job. I feel like I SHOULD say something to someone though, right? Idk. I’ve been on the job hunt for a while now and am not really having any luck, which is just adding to my despair. What should I do?
