The USPS is clear that the return address should be in the upper left on the front to be read appropriately by their OCR scanner

Yes, I know that now. But why do none of the stationery providers even offer to print on the front? And I still receive invitations with the return address on the back, so it never occurred to me.
Oh no.. I also printed mine like that! Did you drop them off at usps or put them all in a mailbox?
It will be the same regardless, they are scanned to be sorted

All at the post office. Took the first batch back and talked to the onsite manager. Since they weren't postmarked he said he would cover the scan and repost them. He said it's luck of the draw if they get put in the machine backwards they will get kicked out for no postage. Seond issue if they get postmarked but another machine done the line flips them.
Some have been delivered as getting RSVP, but means we will probably have to try to contact everyone who doesn't RsVP.
Apparently the machines don't read cursive, so if the return address is in a cursive font you would be safer. Cursive has to be handsorted. Cursive on the front can cost you more.

invite vendor here 🙋🏻♀️ return address on the back was always fairly industry standard, it’s in the last year ish that the usps machines aren’t reading that properly anymore. i’m in a large group with other stationers and it’s been a big topic of discussion lately because they don’t tell you that anywhere.. we just find it out as there starts being issues with invites. i’ve been aware for about 2 months so i’ve been informing my couples and figuring out how we want to proceed. if you got your invites through a website like minted or something they’ll be even later to figure this issue out, so it sucks. the machines do read cursive though, the only thing that really matters on the address is the zip code because that’s how they’re sorted by the machines. so if the zip code is legible on the back cursive or print doesn’t matter

I got the through minted. Luckily I signed up for USPS mail notification, so I coukd send them the pictures of dozens being delivered to me. The reprinted all my envelops with no return and something they call skinny wraps. strips with return address on the front and wrap around to the back with their names.
Caught in the middle is no fun. Hard to know how many are being delivered and the time frame for returns.
