It might have been a good idea to demand a compensation review 6 months in, forcing an exception to the annual review. BUT, since that didn’t happen you really only have two options: to wait out the year or to leave for better pay.
If you choose to STAY - Over the next 6 months, perform like hell. Tick every box on the job description of your current role and get your hands on the JD for the next role, making progress against some of those responsibilities too. Point to examples when the review comes up. All of this ups your chances for an increase and/or promotion.
If you choose to GO - there’s a chance they’d match a better offer to keep you. But I wouldn’t bet on that outcome. Leaving in less than a year could be a black mark on your resume, so be prepared to talk through that in future interviews (if you choose to include it at all) 🤷♂️
Thank you for the advice!!
I agree. The best advise I can give is setting an expectation and saying you really like working there and are looking to advance. Ask what KPIs you’d need to hit and if you do, what that compensation would look like. Track everything for the year and bring it back up. If they don’t give you the compensation they said they would, it’s time to jump ship.
Thank you! I think that is my plan!
Assess yourself and speak to your manager about giving you the compensation you deserve. If you felt devalued, you better find a company that values your work and pays you proportionately with your skills and the results you deliver.
