I am stuck at management level in a consulting jobs. While I know some of the reasons, it’s hard to figure out how to overcome these.
I lack:
- executive presence
- oral clarity and conciseness
- personal branding
- upward management
I’m really good at project management, team development and meeting the overall objectives. But since I sell myself short, it does not come across as being a great job.
I have improved over the years but really need a push on the above. Help?!

These are common challenges and you will get there. Break down the key root causes and improve them one by one. Work on incremental improvements and you will get there. In some cases you also need to focus more on yourself and your self belief, the personal branding will follow

I would also go back and if you’re in any meetings that have been recorded, go back and look at your answers or your statements in those meetings and write down or record a better answer that’s more concise. I know that’s painful, I hate watching myself or videoing myself for learning purposes, but it really does help.

IMO - in today's environment to become an SM you need to become a specialist. At this level, a big part of why the work gets sold is because of you.
The days of the generalist are gone and PMing is a commodity skill. What are you known for? Im what specific area in your firm you are the go to SME?
If you find that you'll find your path to the next level.

It sounds like you excel at execution but need to translate that into visible impact. Focusing on clarity in IT task assignment can help demonstrate your leadership—clearly defining responsibilities, outcomes, and priorities shows executive presence. Using a tool like Workstatus can help track, communicate, and showcase these assignments effectively, making your contributions more visible to leadership and strengthening your personal brand.

These are all things that can be addressed… are you working with any mentors?

I hear a lot of people referring to mentors, but it’s really hard to find the right fit and good ones. Even tried communication coaches, was not impressed

Attended multiple first rounds for mphasis(full time - Texas location). But still I didn’t hear any feedbacks from any of the interview panels/consultancy companies. Seems like they are conducting interviews for name sake and letting us to get wait for the results (for more than a month)
Seriously! positions are available? or I don’t know what’s happening around me. It’s frustrating!

What’s the hiring process of Mphasis?

What is your job title? As it right now I’m managing a team of product owners and I’m unofficially being called “Chief Product Owner.” I’m in the process of working with a coach to get my resume updated so I can begin applying for external roles. But I don’t even know what job titles to target.

I had a great review and a 5.5% raise and a great bonus at my company. But I also got a new Director and a peer manager of mine left the company, so I will be absorbing her team. In addition, my director said I will be receiving 'deep delegation' from them. I don't mind more work, but deep delegation is a new term I've never heard. What does that mean lol?

My remit quadrupled+ in a recent re-org with no increase in pay/promotion, my new director is new to the company and was zero help, and I was passed over for recent promotion during the comp cycle. The new director essentially began shutting me down any time I ask for clarity in my career progression. Now they have taken credit for the project I’ve been building over the past year+ without giving me props whatsoever to higher ups. What is the best plan of action here?

Our annual reviews are approaching & one of my direct reports has been with us for almost six years w/ little growth. My reco was to let him go & find a stronger, hungrier & more motivated designer at the same level. However, my boss instead wants us to promote him in hopes that will spark some motivation. I am not behind this decision & have voiced my multitude of concerns in promoting an employee who doesn't deserve it. HR is behind the decision! Thoughts on promoting an undeserving report?

Hi everyone!

After years of hard work, I just got my first position in a leadership role! Yay! I’ll be leading a team of 12.
I wanted to know if you had any tips for me, things you wish you knew before, or things previous leaders did for/to you that you found admirable or stayed with you. I want to make sure I’m there for them and want to be a leader they will remember positively.

Thank you so much!!

"Everybody can be a leader" some say... "Leaders are nurtured not born" say others... True.

But... this is also true: "not everybody wants to be a leader" (whether they can or can't be). It is a fairly common practice in organizations with traditional career management structures for people to "be promoted" into leadership roles as the "end steps of the corporate ladder" that was climbed doing technical work. And, unfortunately, this doesn't work all the time

Any thoughts on how do we deal with an incompetent boss who you dont look up to and have no trust that you would ever get credit for the work you would do for him/her? Given that changing the boss is not an option.
