I currently work in finance, but would like to see how a project management, product management, UX designer role would be. Any tips to make a move into such a role? Also do you know which individuals would best be suited for these roles? I currently work in numbers, but I would like my next role to be less numerical and use a different type of skill set. There budget was upto 10 when i asked but feels like they playing me for my desperation to start working.

Here are my observations about the skills and experiences that PMs have and how people are joining that group.

They are all technical. All of them could easily be very technical cloud consultants or cloud engineers.
Tl/Dr. If you couldn't get hired as a cloud engineer or cloud consultant - you probably can't become a PM

Is this normal? Have only 2 interviews for my on-site and then would have another “informal chat” with VP if I pass on-site before sending to HC, haven’t read of anyone else with this experience

What role “generally” pays more at Google? Product Manager or Sales Engineer?

Completed onsite interviews for the TAM role and recruiter gave me feedback that my technical depth wasn’t up to par for the role but my googleness/leadership and GCA interview feedback was stellar so they plan to propose me for Cloud PM roles instead. Does this happen? Or are they just being nice? What’s the probability that they’ll match me to another role?

Got a verbal confirmation for an offer from recruiter. Now she is negotiating my pay with the compensation team instead of me. I thought I had to do the negotiations with that team? Currently scheduling “on sites” for a S&O role in CA. My referrer said they can hire as L5 or L6. Would like to land in the L6 bucket as I’ve heard 5 --> 6 is one of the more challenging promotions.

I’m looking for info on what the real difference is in responsibilities (manager vs IC, cross functional vs focused, etc) so I can focus on checking the L6 boxes during my interviews.
