You can lose your mind trying to figure out how recruiters think. I honestly wish someone would write a book about the recruiting business, it's one of those things that begs for explanation. Seriously, an editor at a publishing house should recruit a good business journalist to take that on.
Me: “Here’s what I would like.” Recruiter: “don’t have that, but here’s a vague description of a fully remote job that offers 3k more than your current position! Did I mention it’s remote!?”
This happens to me all the time as well. I have worked with many recruiters, and they all seem to always send roles that have low pay and aren't the roles I am looking for anyhow. It is crazy to me that they reached out after a year.
Even as a recruiter my inbox gets polluted by other recruiters and it shocks me how unimpressive most of them are. Thankfully much of the dead weight in the industry is being discarded following a buoyant couple of years when everyone thought they were hot sh*t.

Yes, and then there are the good ones that stand out. Guess who gets retained now that I control the budget for that.
I get to decide which ones we use, so indirectly, yes.
