I don’t know, the unemployment numbers just don’t feel real to me right now. Everywhere I look, people are saying they’ve been searching for months, getting ghosted, applying to hundreds of roles, or taking jobs way below what they used to do. Maybe the official numbers are accurate on paper, but it really doesn’t feel that way if you’re actually in the job market. Curious if other people feel this too, or if it depends on the industry.

I think there is certainly a disconnect between the official reports and white collar jobs

Yeah, I think that’s the disconnect. The headline numbers might look fine overall, but white collar jobs feel like a completely different market right now. Maybe areas like hospitality or tourism are getting a boost from things like the World Cup, but that doesn’t really reflect what people in corporate roles are experiencing.

I like my current job, company and public accounting. I know I am being underpaid at $70k as a senior tax associate with 2-3 years of experience as I have talked with my local peers as well as local recruiters. Also, I know outside hires to my company get paid about $5-$10k higher than me, but they don’t get a raise the following year. My question is what is everyone’s experience with company hopping to get a pay bump within public accounting?

Is there such things as FP&A positions in Big 4? If so, are there better times to make the change than others (I.e. at senior vs manager)? I’m currently in FP&A and looking to work at a Big 4, or another company that offers the ability to move abroad. My current company and many others I know about do not offer the mobility to do so until much later, which is not what I want. Thank you.
