The job market stinks on ice right now.
Even trying to leverage folks I know has had zero useful results, but it's still probably the most effective.
I understand....I have over 100 out there too....with very few interviews or call backs. I read recently from Integris Health that people need to start going to the actual business websites due to all of the fraudulent and hacking activity on job sites.
I feel for you , interviews go great tell u, we'll be calling u Wednesday and Wednesday goes by no call, so u send a thank you for not calling 😉 and remind them they didn't call but really its a reminder that they were supposed to call ,buddy what happened to interview, shake hands and go to work. Smh its stupid all this hoop jumping.
Yes, I always get the answer that I am overqualified for certain positions or underqualified. Where is the "happy medium"? I've been to interviews, even had 2nd interviews, but they always seem to pick someone else. I'm thinking it may be my age (I'm 60), but very qualified.
I did work at a jail and yeah , it's for someone that has no heart or caring in em , they want you to talk down and not care about these people , your taughtto care , listen and do right by a person, but u cant smile , be positive, or be friendlydue to their peoplein jail , then u have people who ya work with and talk about you and want yourlife miserable, yeah theirs peoplelike that , if u care and are pretty dont cause they will eat you alive .. ,
Never skip lunch! I learned this the hard way!
I always get the "kiss of death" answer after being interviewed. It's always "We'll let you know" or "We'll be in touch" and they never do. This always happens after the first round. I have never gotten past the first round of interviews ever. I often wonder what it would be like if I actually DID make it to the second round of interviews. It would be nice for a change if something like that were to happen
Actually my interviews don't happen consistently. Oh boy do I wish it did but it doesn't. My interviews only come in very few and far between. Sometimes on very rare occasions I get lucky but the rest of the time I do not. I guess it depends on the company. To be honest I am not even sure anymore
This has happened to me way to many times; you apply to a job in a certain location, because it's ideal for you, then they say they actually need you at a separate location, which is further (much further) away! I mean, if I wanted to work at the other location, don't you think I'd apply to THAT location in the first place!
I can relate to this. It literally feels like you’re independence and freedom are being stripped.
Yes, but not even getting offers to clean toilets. I have been unemployed since 12/31/2024. I am about to be forced to apply for social security retirement two years early & will still have to work because it is not enough. What a different time we live in.
Ms. Gloria, I’m really sorry you’re going through this. That’s incredibly stressful, and I can only imagine how frustrating it must feel, especially after putting in so many years of work.
Please don’t take this as a reflection of your worth or work ethic. The job market right now can be very challenging, and a lot of qualified, hardworking people are facing similar situations.
If you haven’t already, it might be worth connecting with your local workforce center. They often have resources for job leads, resume support, and sometimes even programs specifically geared toward helping individuals re-enter the workforce. They can also help identify opportunities that may not be widely posted.
You might also consider roles that value experience and reliability, such as administrative support, customer service, or part-time positions that can help bridge the gap while you figure out your next step.
I know it’s easier said than done, but please don’t lose hope. You still have so much to offer, and the right opportunity can come when you least expect it.
Yes, I've done so many applications I should own stock in cell phones and computers. I do believe I'm an older person they just don't hire us. I read that they are afraid we are not trainable and won't catch on. Also, more interesting in the younger generation and they are using outdated recruiting tactics. Great article but it's true. What they are over looking is the fact older people in general put more effort in what they are doing, and as myself I enjoy working and don't call of from work. I just want to work and enjoy life and family, you must work to do that. It was a need for me to change my field of work. I'm going to continue searching. Guys don't give up.
I hear you, and I can understand why you feel that way. It can definitely seem discouraging, especially after putting in so many applications. But I want to encourage you not to count yourself out. Experience, reliability, and a strong work ethic are things a lot of employers still value, even if it doesn’t always feel that way during the process.
Sometimes it’s less about age and more about how experience is being presented. Highlighting adaptability, willingness to learn, and any recent skills or training can help shift that perception. Even small updates like modernizing your resume format or tailoring it to each job can make a difference.
I also really respect your mindset about continuing to search and not giving up. That persistence is powerful, and it truly only takes one opportunity with the right employer who sees your value.
Keep going, and don’t lose confidence in what you bring to the table. It matters more than you think.
Have you looked into dialysis?
So look for one in your area that is looking for a PCT(Patient Care Technician) just show up and ask for the manager. If they like you, they will push your application through.
Does jobs not call you anymore to do an interview? Everything is thru emails nowadays seem like.
Jobs call me, text me and send e-mails. What's happening is: once I get the phone call what they say they pay changes and it's lower, come on now be honest I'm a hard worker, I'm not going leave a job that should be p paying me more already to accept a job paying $2 less, you can work up to three amount that was stated. I don't have time for games. Be honest with you, fast food pays more than some CNA jobs, something is not adding up.
YEEEEES I BEEN SAYING THE SAME THING FOR A MIN NOW. NOBODY CALL BACK. SOMETHING IS GOING ON.
I think age is a factor my problem is everything is a 1099 and don’t want to pay enough and high quotes , work your butt off but don’t get a good pay. This is how it’s all coming down to I took home health care I’m 65 it’s horrible you almost have to know someone in least I make a little money to supplement my SSI
I have a virtual interview coming up. Is it better to use my cell phone or my laptop?
Also you need to fix your resume. It's getting auto rejected by AI. Resubmit it after you fix it.
I did and got rid of part time jobs that didn't relate to my work I wanted , I keep getting emails,,,, Thank for filling out the application but we decided to hire someone else, or we was impressed with your application but decided to hire another with closer to our needs , U get 10 rejections a day, I start feeling like why bother? Up to 184 applications. 6 interviews. Smh .
Vet clinics are always hiring! You could easily work reception. You'd call that a slap in the face though, wouldn't you? :/
I’ve actually been in your position before, and I know how frustrating it can be. At one point, I submitted over 200 applications before landing the right opportunity. The reality is, the job market is very competitive, so you have to find ways to stand out. I previously worked with the Texas Workforce, where I helped build job postings and taught others how to create effective resumes, complete applications, and prepare for interviews—so I’ve seen firsthand how the process works from both sides. One of the biggest mistakes people make is only applying to one specific job title, when there are often multiple roles with different titles that require the same skill set. It’s also important to carefully read each job posting and tailor your resume to highlight the exact skills and experience they’re looking for—you really can’t use the same resume for every job. I even applied for roles I hadn’t directly held before, but I knew my experience translated well, and that’s how I was able to grow into my current role as a clinical administrative assistant supporting 17 family medicine clinics. It takes persistence, strategy, and a willingness to adapt, but it absolutely can pay off.
I am up to 202 applications i couldn'ttell you all the rejectionletters , emails or text messagesi have receivedin the last few months , 26 years of Cna work , Ccma of 2 going on 3 years , dependable, hard working, never took days off , in 3 years i had almost 400 hours of PDO, but can't find a job due to my last employer. I know they're saying I'm hard to deal with , I just want the same as I give . I gave my all and was treated like I was a trash bag to be thrown out. Smh . I couldn't tell you the tears I've shed , and the pain of being rejected over and over does to a body emotionality. I praying Noone ever feels like this . Cause its horrible. I will stay strong i have too.,
I’m sorry you’re going through this, I know how difficult and discouraging it can feel. Sometimes it just means that particular opportunity wasn’t the right fit, and that’s okay. The right one will come along, so don’t give up. When it does, you’ll recognize it.
One thing that can really help is making sure you’re not using the same resume for every application. Tailoring your resume to match each job description can make a big difference.
Have you applied for unemployment? Also, if you’re in Texas, the Texas Workforce Commission offers great resources. They can assist with job searches, resume building, application support, and even provide help with things like gas cards, work clothes, tools, and childcare assistance if needed. I worked there for three years and saw firsthand how helpful those programs can be.
If you’d like, I’d be happy to review your resume or help tailor it to a specific position you’re interested in. Just let me know, and I can share my email with you.
