Congratulations! Before you fire up cigars and pop the bubbly, I have suggestions.
1. Thank everyone who sponsored you. Take them to lunch, maybe give a small but tasteful gift. Make sure they will have your back in the crucial first 3 years.
2. Line up your partner pipeline with deals ready to close. Early deals are like yeast - they will make your rainmaker reputation rise.
3. Identify your go-to team members and start locking them down. Take them to lunch too, and understand their career goals. Make them your ride or dies.
4. Make friends with the college grad staffing team so you get your pick of the new hires.
5. Save money now to cushion any lean times in the partnership. Read your partnership documents closely and understand them thoroughly. Some people I know got a HELOC on their house “just in case.”
6. Take the time to create a strategic plan for your career now. To make your partner case, you had to demonstrate domain ownership. How will you further and extend that domain dominance? Can you team up with other partners and directors to grow the sector? Can you create unique IP? What’s your plan to publish? To self promote (on LI or Medium for example)? How will you AI-proof your work?
What are good ideas for gifts?
Thank you so much!!! I’m making a list and the gratitude cycles will begin next week. Won’t be here without my leaders and team members. Love the idea around college staff!
Congratulations???
Nothing quite like jumping on the titanic right before it hits the iceberg. But hey, big milestone. Good luck.
