My base loc is Bengaluru, but currently I am not mandatorily required to work from office, and have been working from home since I joined Deloitte in July. Should I talk to my manager and go back to my hometown Kolkata and work from there? Staying in PG all day and working from here is not quite feasible for me. Suggest pls. Deloitte India

Perfectly normal for many consultants - you learn to practice and hide your fears over time .
Prepare ahead of time. Anticipate their questions, concerns, needs and come up with ways to address those questions before your meeting. At first, unexpected things will still come up but you’ll get better at it with time. This helped me so much when I first rolled onto my current project. Now I’m at the point where I don’t need to prepare nearly as much.
Know your craft. I often see people suggesting faking it until you make it. I don't always agree with that, not all clients are dumb. You pretty much need to know what you are talking about; know your deliverables, research your projects and domain in which you are working. Having a good basic foundation goes a long way.
I realized over time that I am in a meeting because I have something to contribute - either in the meeting or after. I always ask the questions that come to me, irrespective of how dumb I might think it is - this helps in more than one way..try it and this anxiety will go away as you are present in the meeting - attentive and getting the information you need
Grab your partners hand and lick their index finger 3 times for good luck. Repeat this before every meeting.
Preparation goes a long way
Yeah preparation and being is the best advice! Also if you’re leadings the meeting set and agenda to follow and know what you’re there to accomplish. It may not remove all of it but for me once I’m five min in the anxiety is gone.
Normal but you can deal with it! Something like pumping yourself up and practicing, as mentioned above, really help.
Herbal Ashwaganda root is a natural anxiety reducer... you can buy anywhere with supplements. This helps me stop those little “what if” thoughts that anxiety induces.
Megnesium, lemon balm as well all god for calming the nervous system and anxiety
Get a prescription for propranolol
I would see first if it’s something you can address without medicine first and save that for a last option
I listen to very loud music before important meetings in front of larger crowds
Practice practice practice. Just keep doing it and over time it won't feel as anxious
- Your managers wouldn’t let you do this if they didn’t feel you had the ability.
- You aren’t alone. Others will step in if needed.
- You are the expert of your module and work.
- Practice in advance. My team did dry runs focused on the key message of each slide.
- It may be tough now and the anxiety may never fully go away, but it gets better with time.
I always prepare and try to walkthrough every scenario moderately possible and have an answer ready
Don’t worry. No matter how much you prepare, you will step into a political mess because a project team at your firm 3 years ago screwed something up and the VP in the room has decided to hold it against you.
Depends how long you’ve been working. I used to be really nervous especially when leading meetings, but as time has passed I’ve grown comfotable to the point of being able to present on 0 notice.
Don’t be so hard on yourself. We are dealing with client money and proving we are worth the cost, the pressure and the the stakes are different. You just have to adapt and that takes time! You do the best you can, learn, grow, and get support from your team
