I got an offer at one of the big biopharmas. However, it’s a manager role… (I don’t know the package yet. Will likely get the official offer from HR tomorrow). As someone with a PhD background and 2.5 years of consulting experience, I feel I might be low balled. How much do biopharma/biotechs pay a manager/SM role these days? Has anyone tried to negotiate job title? Any advice?

PhD has little bearing on your comp unless it’s really valued at the firm you’re getting an offer at. Experience trumps all
This is obviously not true in pharma. (I am biased)
130-170ish for M-SM
Remember manager is usually the bottom title in pharma (except for maybe specialist?). When I worked in pharma everyone was a “manager” to start and it went up from there (in marketing and market access)
Also 2.5 years of consulting is not that much to aim for AD. Manager sounds about right
I guess multiple people with PhDs and less than 2.5 years of experience as SM.
Usually at big pharma you justify SM with 6yrs + BS, 4 yes + masters or 2 yrs + PhD
I’m in biopharma now, and I agree M is a low ball. Your experience is definitely appropriate for SM (if lucky even AD at a small place).
SM comp is typically a base of ~$150-170 with ~15-20% bonus and equity is highly variable company to company.
Also, you should post this in the Life Sciences Consulting bowl. You’ll get a lot more insight from others as well.
Great offer! I def wouldn’t negotiate title at this point - the lower sounding title gives you more room to grow, more quickly, and the pay is good for SM.
What type of role is it? Is it a support function or on the marketing/brand team? If the former, I think you are being lowballed. You should definitely be in the SM / AD range. If the latter, you’re lucky to get M!
Could you elaborate on this a bit please? Why is it a lower titled position for marketing/brand?
