Since Omnicom’s acquisition of IPG, many offers have been delayed. They’re currently trying to realign budgets before moving forward, and as a result, several agencies are essentially being held hostage. Internally, we’ve been referring to it as the “Omnicom black hole”—offers get approved at the agency level but stall once they reach Omnicom.
I recently hired someone for my team, and the approval process took months. It only went through after she received a competing offer. These are roles that are covered under the clients retainer so it’s technically funded. It’s embarrassing.
We are experiencing the exact same thing.
I'm on the same boat right now. It's been 3 weeks. Did they ever end up extending the official offer and if so, how many weeks did you have to wait. Thanks!
I see ok thanks for the insights. Yeah it has been a hot minute and no movement. Are you saying the offer is technically safe but it’s just super slow? Are they on hold all together and when do they expect to clear up? Sorry for all the questions.
Thank you so much this is very insightful. Yeah I know hopefully it all works out.
I heard from someone who works at an Omnicom agency that they’re on a hiring freeze due to the acquisition but I don’t have more info than that. Hoping the offer holds up for you!
8 weeks is a long time. Brace yourself, it’s probably gone.
That happened to me at an Omnicom agency years ago. I can only imagine that it’s worse with the merger.
Sounds like it should happen but there are no guarantees. You can always try to apply pressure (“other interview” etc) but it really might not matter given the scale of the merger.
Which agency?
