I wouldn't worry about checking all these boxes. You can tell whoever wrote this up doesn't actually understand the role if Dreamweaver is mentioned.
I agree. This list is laughable. It’s clear this person has no idea what they are talking about.
How big is this agency?
I’m the only creative at my agency and this looks like what I do now. I’d say a company like this is out of touch with the role of a Graphic Designer or Art Director. Even at my current job I’ve had to push back sometimes explaining I’m not an expert in After Effects or animated banner ads.
As if this isn’t enough, don’t think if a coworker got laid off, they wouldn’t add more to your plate by asking you to make updates to the agency’s website in WordPress or schedule company and client social posts.
Same here I started as a trainee in a team of 3 creatives . Then they fired everyone except me. Have to deal with website development(design+PM in front line with the client), animations, newsletters(not sending them hopefully) for client and agency, websites updates for the agency, social post, etc etc. 2k/month.
Who still uses dreamweaver?
I wouldn't apply to this position unless you need a job. They don't know what they want or need which is a sign pointing to a lack of design leadership as well as disconnected expectations. It could be a role that's great for a generalist with great rapport or a soul crushing sanity questioning trip through the netherworld.
DM me if you have specific questions or toss them in this thread.
Excellent PowerPoint design skills? I agree PowerPoint is a strong tool, but having excellent "PowerPoint design skills"? From the description I would say they want a designer primarily for marketing materials, but definitely it is not a company in which you want to stay too much.
You'll probably accumulate lots of knowledge from lots of adiacent fields, in a a very short amount of time. It is good to start with, but stress will be bigger than the paycheck. 🤯
I'm surprised it doesn't list director or flash
this is 🗑
A lot of this is easy to learn enough to have a basic grasp of. I had a job that had a similar laundry list and basically made sure I had one example of each thing in a separate page in my book that I linked directly to. Some things I just too previous creative and re-created it in whatever software. Half the stuff they asked for I never used, but it was good to have working knowledge of.
Definitely not a bad idea to become familiar with all or a portion of these topics - it makes one a more well-rounded designer. But the issue is when it's all piled onto a junior designer who has very little applied experience doing ALL of these things in a professional setting. Most of the time, when this much pressure is put on an entry-level hire, it implies that the team will be small, and they'll be alright with "meh" work that gets the job done, as opposed to letting you sharpen any particular skill set.
For better or worse, AE is definitely a necessary skill for designers. It's relatively easy to learn though, if you dedicate a few afternoons to youtube tutorials you'll be golden. If you completed a 4 year design program, I'd bet you have a very strong knowledge of the basic Adobe programs.
Requirements are generally loose as well. But as others have mentioned, the person who wrote this job description does not understand what the role of a designer is lol
Adobe experience ? Really?
Job postings like this should send you a red flag. Bypass it. No company should make a junior do the work of (what it appears from this post): AD, production designer, motion graphics designer, presentation designer, web developer 😮
