I had to drop a client this week. Multi-year relationship, big billings, but they were toxic to my team and killing morale. It hurt in the short term, but I slept better that night than I have in months. When do you decide the money just isn’t worth it?

Can you link to it?

I would imagine a client like this creates more work for you as well (either internally dealing with the team or constantly meeting the clients demands). Seems like you could leverage your time better by finding more clients for the same amount of effort.

I would personally take a smaller boat but be able to fill it with way more friends. 🤷

I wish there were more partners like you.

How did the client take it? Did they get the sense that they were fired as the client? Doubt they’ll realize or see it that way or regret treating your team badly. As much as I want the client to realize their loss, toxic folks are either lack self-awareness or they are too narcissistic to realize or admit their fault.

At any rate, good on you.

A very wise move! Staying with that client would have cost more.

Assume other clients are paying the bills then?

Curious - how did the client respond when you initially tried to fix the issues? (And well done!)

I personally try to get to the root cause of the tension. Explore if the clients attitude is a result of a more tangible issue that can be remedied.
I’ve dropped one client in 16 yrs. This was a result of management not having sound judgement. basically ignoring our technical advice which demonstrated a clear lack of professionalism.

Hi everyone. Is it typical for the attorney to take credit for the work a paralegal does? An example: I gave some ideas about deposition questions and some observations I made (I was asked about giving suggestions) regarding a witness and the attorney mentioned that he’s the one that had these great questions/observations. Zero credit or thank you for the work I did.

I've heard a couple of things about how the partner pension amount @ PwC is determined, both similar in approach.

Both calculations I have heard of result in an annuity paid until death, at which point a surviving spouse (if any) receives the annuity.

The first calculation I have heard is that you get 80% of your highest earning year as a partner (e.g. If your best year was $1M, you'd get $800k as an annuity).

The second calculation I have heard is that they look at your three highest earning years as a partner, and take the second highest and you get 100% of that. (e.g if your three highest earning years were $1M, $800k, and $1.2M, you'd receive $1M as an annuity).

Is ANY of this true, or just all rumor? Any PwC partners that can chime in and explain the pension plan fact for fact? Perhaps with sample numbers?
