I have 10+ years of accounting experience with Big 4 firms. Many years as a military vet. Graduate of a “prestigious” university. But after 10 applications, I still can’t find a damn job. 1 interview is all I got. Wtf.

After 10 applications :) How about those who have submitted 100s of applications with no results. Masters degree from a major university, dual certification, international work experience, speak a foreign language, worthless in today's job market.

Sorry to hear and good luck @SA1!

what did you do at big 4? what industry did you work in? How many big 4 firms in 10 years? what city are you looking in? What is your current level at big 4? Are you currently employed if no how long have you been unemployed?

A wide variety of things: Audit, forensic accounting, investigations, compliance, business intelligence, disaster recovery, insurance. Manager for 4 years. Two stints with the big 4s: one for 5 years, another for 4 years, (6 mos at a mid tier in between). Currently employed. 7 years of military service, non-commissioned officer for 5 of them.

what kind of jobs are you applying to? what is your current role and what firm and title do you currently have? It's hard to give feedback with the leave of information we have.

Hello Folks,

Could anyone help with referral in ESG domain? More so around the audit and reprting side of it.

Quick background - i am a chartered accountant with 6+ yoe in audit, accounting, reporting and transfer pricing.

I'm working on a pitch deck, for an event that I'm planning next year for my wine brand called OBA, but I'm struggling to come up with sponsorship ideas.

I don't want to go the traditional route of creating tiers, because I feel like you should do most of the things in tiers regardless on how much they donated. Can anyone assist with coming up with some ideas?

Also, does anyone know how to create a virtual swag bag?

Thanks in advance.

Does anyone have the 2020 SHRM books for sale or to borrow? My job won’t contribute towards my certification. I’ve already paid for my test. I have the books from 2015 but I’d like to study from the 2020. I tried finding them online to purchase but sellers of affordable books aren’t responding.

I’m currently working with a senior level HR candidate. This individual has a doctorate in business with a focus in HR, her SPHR, Federal, and private sector experience at the singer level, and has a fabulous personality. I’m curious is anyone else having difficulties play some candidates like this? At this point I’m starting to think it’s racial or her sex based of the lack of interest in this candidate. Any thoughts?

My dilemma… I am an injury adjuster at a carrier experiencing high inventory that’s barely manageable. A competitor offered a higher salary and manageable workload. BUT, I would like to get into underwriting. I applied for UW position w/ a different carrier and they’ve made an offer. It’s lower than my current salary and significantly lower than what I’d make by taking the first offer. Do I take the high salary and stay in claims or go for UW in hopes it will be best in long run?

Considering switching careers:

I got hired straight out from college 5 years ago from a small CPA firm and have worked in Tax ever since. Lately, I feel like this is not what I'm actually into. What else I can do with my Accounting degree?

My passion is Real Estate and Interior Design, love Managerial Accounting, I can sit for hours analyzing data, I also have a degree in Supply Chain Management.

My passion cannot feed my family but I've been burned out so much after years in Tax. 😞

Hi all,

Do firms match offers from other Big 4s for campus hires? I’ve received a campus offer from both
KPMG and EY. I’m more interested in the EY offer, but they are paying 3k less than KPMG.

Would it be a bad move to let them know about the other offer and try negotiating? I feel it wont make a difference in the long run, but at the same time I don’t want to leave any money on the table if possible.

Thanks!

Out of curiosity. How would a company view a potential candidate who has a period of unemployment to study for the CPA. I am considering to start studying for the exam but I know I would need to leave my employer in order to give 110%. I am contemplating the idea of at least passing one part while employed. Then leaving my employer to study FAR. I am considering to leave my current employer anyways, so it’s more of how my future employer would view that lapse.
