Don’t quit. If they fire you, sue.
Once this is over look for a new job.
Save those emails to outside email or print them.
I hope you took this advice it’s crazy for them to insist. What about taking family medical leave?
Make them fire you. Work from home. Do as much as you can, and then as others have said if you get fired you sue them.
I don't know, but I feel like it could be a liability to mandate someone come into the office in the middle of a pandemic/national emergency etc where WHO and CDC are recommending social distancing and schools are shutting down. I would think if you responded and added human resources and said something to the effect of due to hardship presented by having no caretaker in place due to your schools, and in light of the public health concerns you have for your family and community, you would like to work out a WFH plan with the company for the time period that the schools have given you and he originally agreed. You could probably add the school notices for good measure. Id think with HR on the thread and having it all in writing, he would be advised to not make a power play on a parent during a health crisis. Then I would start ramping up savings and laying the groundwork for leads, but I wouldn't just quit. At least not without having a bit more in writing first and seeing how these next two/three play out. Good luck.
Ugh, I’m really sorry. Do you think they would really fire you for standing your ground and working from home? It might be better to take the risk rather than quitting. Good luck!!!!
Any chance you’re in CA? State labor law protects our right to time off work during school closures, including emergencies and natural disasters. Also, @themomattorney IG account has some helpful information
Thanks, good point to just stand my ground. If they did fire me it would probably be the best thing to happen to my career. They can not comprehend that working from home is not the same as not working at all.
What about the rest of your team/ agency? Can you ban together ? Global WPP just announced global work from home.
Tell them to pay for a nanny and you’ll go in...
So I was allowed to wfh for a few days, but now that has been rescinded. My husband is working from home, and it’s impossible for him to actually do that while watching the kids, too. I said that I will come in tomorrow and use a vacation day on Friday, but after that I have no idea what to do. I’m exhausted worrying about this and trying not to fuck my kids up with my anxiety. I’m interviewing for a job that I really want, just praying that they 1) don’t push hiring and 2) move FAST!
and WFH, my boss, the CEO/Founder, has now emailed to say that unless I am under direct government quarantine I have to come into the office. This is the last straw in a huuuge pile of hay. How stupid would it be to quit when a recession seems to be starting?

Everyone else has offered great advice, but I’m just here to say this is a complete load of horseshit.
Let me guess... your CEO is a man without kids?!!
Where’s your office? That’s so unreasonable. What did you end up doing?
Can you apply for FMLA? They can’t fire you and must pay your insurance if you have it through them.
OP what is current status? Has your state / city gone on lockdown ?
NYC, finally allowed everyone to work from home when Cuomo closed all non-essential businesses. Now we just get bullied to provide daily to-do lists and updates on what we have and have not accomplished at EOD. 🙄
