If your manager doesn't support you or his team when needed then he has no backbone and therefore isn't a leader. And I agree with talking with him privately and letting him know how you feel. If you don't get any improvement from him, then it's time to look elsewhere. There's no need to stay in a stressful job.
I would say schedule a meeting with him and go over your feelings & why it’s making you feel stressed and mention that it’s impacting your position and possibly others bc you feel like you’re being overworked unnecessarily. Make sure to jot down bullet points so you don’t forget to say something.
He should actually have regular meetings with his staff to go over points like this… but 1 on 1’s would be better. My director/Boss actually holds 1 on 1 meetings with Mgmt and his staff mthly.
I have the same situation. I tried to talk to him but he honestly doesn’t care what’s on my plate and I’ve never had his support for the past few years. He will simply say things like, “It’s what they want” or he’ll tell me why he wants it like that too no matter how redundant the task is. I’ve come to realize his lack of leadership and support of me is not going to change and I’m looking elsewhere. I hope you find a solution!
Let him know privately that it is impacting your work and it makes the workplace stressful. Hope this helps.
