I have a job interview tomorrow with an employment litigation firm (under 10 attorneys). The two people interviewing me will be the office manager and an attorney (maybe partner? No info on that person on the website). I've never been interviewed by an office manager, so I'm thinking it's more of a screening session. Anyone have experience or advice on what that interview could look like?

My previous (small) firm did a similar thing and it was the substantive interview. The office manager might be there to give another opinion on whether you’d fit personality wise into the firm and can often have a lot of sway with the partners at the firm if they’ve been at the firm a long time.

Good to know, thanks!

At our firm we sort of have a similar process. The “office manager” is probably akin to our top operations person (COO) or top paralegal or someone from the governing group (may or may not be a lawyer). They’re probably there to give you a run down of the firm culture and how they operate but probably there as person to screen you in a more substantive way.

like

Ah okay, thanks!

Counterpoint: I had a “screener” with an HR person a little over a year ago, and they asked me lots of substantive questions about my work, on top of a very pointed question about how I contribute to diversity in the workplace. I was totally unprepared and didn’t get past that interview. Don’t expect a lot of substance, but do be ready to talk about your experience and maybe also practice for some behavioral questions. Never hurts to over-prepare.

Oh wow that's interesting. I will keep that in mind. Thank you!
