These numbers don’t add up. This “analysis” doesn’t compare across industries, etc. it doesn’t control for sex either. Finally, it seems to be based on voluntary responses to Glassdoor. No wonder the article hedges everything in a “can it be” style.
As gay male I actually think I get paid more than my straight counterparts for a variety of reasons, mostly that are luck in my favor.

@RSM1 ... That's household income. Isn't this just "men earn more than women", and "gay couples don't often have a non-working half" because of lower rates of parenting?
I'd always thought gay men vs straight men... Gay men could potentially earn slightly more, having fewer "out of work" commitments, like parental responsibilities. This, on average, could push salaries up.
On the other hand, there are personality differences which make gay men less likely to demand a raise, among other things, that could suppress wages.
I don't know. Are anecdotal opinions helpful? Maybe.
