I have an offer to start a career as FA or FR for NY LIFE. This would be my first time as a FA. What would be your advise? Should I go this independent track (just commissions) to start with OR should I go for a support track (like client service, associate, para planner, etc?) for another firm? Give me some light here please!

Probably best to go for a support track or WAA program like at MS. Get on a team, learn the business, network and build connections and work your way up. Very hard to do as an FA or “insurance” advisor at NYLIFE. have worked at both companies so can confirm this from personal experience

like

Thank you for your input. I will review the program you suggested. Thanks

If you have the drive a work ethic to work on your own. I would suggest the independent route with a good training program. Check out cetera investors if there is one in your area

Of course happy to help direct you to the right person. can you direct message me you number.

I was advisor then support for 10 years. They terminated me for force reduction I never did anything to deserve. Was 65.5 and three weeks later hired 3 20 something year olds to do my job. I went back to FA with company that appreciates their people.

Sounds like an potential age discrimination lawsuit

Good way to get into the business, get licensed and learn how to fact find and sell, downside is more insurance products then investments, if you are just starting in this business it is a goos way to start, it sure if this helps, good luck

NY Life has very strong prospecting and closing/handling objection training. Downside- very insurance based all the way into their incentives.
MS - strong training on product knowledge (what they want you to know) but weaker on prospecting/closing. (Tough to share your knowledge without prospects or appointments.)
MS is also non-protocol. If you have any aspirations of independence, be prepared to battle over your clients and any restraining order MS places on you.
MS also has account minimums below which you don't get paid as does ML and Wells.
All that shared, if you feel good about your presentation and closing skills AND have a strong Protocol attorney connection - think MS.
If you feel you need improvement on your prospecting, objection handling, and closing skills AND don't mind building a specialty in the insurances which could be a value add to an independent team 3-4 years in the future when you're ready to explore other opportunities- NY Life is not a bad choice.
I've worked with strong recruits from both channels in my lifetime. It all depends on what you believe you need in skill development

Thank you very much 🙏🏼

What kind of exit opportunities are there for tax senior? Looking into getting an MBA. Any thoughts?

I want to leave public as a senior, but can’t find anything I’m interested in. I’ve been applying;g for manager and assistant controller roles, which has been really difficult. But I don’t really want a senior accountant role. I was thinking FP and A is a good choice. I’m looking for something that has good career progression and a better WLB balance, pay isn’t so important to me. Has anyone else dealt with this? Advice would be greatly appreciated.

(Also I’m only 1.5yrs old in my career so I’m definitely still new, and I have previous experience as a project assistant).

DE&I is now a core leadership competency. If you are managing diverse talent, it’s important to understand what the term “privilege” means within a DE&I context so you can lead your team to higher levels of inclusivity+develop optimal strategies for solutioning around team issues/challenges. Everyone has some aspect of privilege depending upon the context. Privilege means the absence of obstacles/barriers, not necessarily the presence of perks. Though some would say *that* itself is a perk.

Went through multi-day loop for L5 SA and felt confident in my interactions. Presentation went well with no lack of answers for follow up questions. Just found out 6 days later I will not be receiving an offer, and it is policy to not provide feedback of gaps or reasons behind no offer. Also found out they ask you not to reapply for 1 to 2 years for same role. Would anyone recommend an alternate path for feedback on interview (outside of recruiter) and is the 1-2 year policy true?
